Gloucester's Beloved Music Festival Returns with a Diverse Lineup and Charitable Mission

The ninth season of the free outdoor music festival, Music on Meetinghouse Green, is set to kick off on Friday, July 5th, marking the return of this beloved community event. Hosted in the heart of Gloucester, Massachusetts, this annual celebration of music and philanthropy promises an evening of enchantment for all who attend.

Kicking off the Season with Jazz and Giving

The festivities will commence with a warm greeting from Mayor Greg Verga, setting the stage for an evening of jazz excellence. The John Baboian Ensemble, hailing from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, will take the stage, captivating the audience with their virtuosic performance. This opening concert holds a special significance, as it not only entertains but also raises funds for local nonprofit organizations through free-will donations from the audience.

Due to the ongoing restoration of Meetinghouse Green, the first concert will be held indoors, in the downstairs church social hall. However, the organizers have ensured that the show will go on, rain or shine, with the indoor venue serving as a backup option for inclement weather. Once the green is fully restored, the concerts will return to their traditional outdoor setting, in front of the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church.

The Music on Meetinghouse Green series has expanded this year, offering a total of 10 Friday evening concerts from July 5th through September 6th. Each week, a different local non-profit organization will be the beneficiary of the free-will donations collected from the audience. Food and soft drinks will be available for purchase, or attendees can bring their own picnic-style fare and libations.
