Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future

ChambersFest's origins trace back to 1986, when local organizations came together to create a festival commemorating Chambersburg's rebirth after the devastating Confederate attack on July 30, 1864. On that fateful day, the town became the only one north of the Mason-Dixon line to be burned by Confederate forces during the Civil War. Over 500 structures were destroyed, leaving 2,000 people homeless. Yet, the townspeople's resilience shone through, as they rebuilt their community, enabling Chambersburg to grow and prosper.Today, ChambersFest celebrates this indomitable spirit with a diverse array of family-friendly events and activities. From the annual Tim & Susan Cook Memorial Race/Walk to the captivating 1864: The Burning Re-enactment, the festival pays homage to Chambersburg's past while embracing its vibrant present.
