A Shocking Revelation

Eric Trump, the 40-year-old son of the former president, shared the chilling details of the incident during an interview with NBC's Savannah Guthrie. He described how he was sitting on the couch with his two young children, a son and a daughter, when the unthinkable unfolded before their eyes."Two days ago, I was on the couch with my children watching my father almost get assassinated on national TV," Eric recounted, his voice laced with emotion. He recounted the moment he heard the shots ring out during his father's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening.

Witnessing the Chaos

"I saw it live ... I clearly understand the sound of a bullet, and I heard the shots and my eyes went right up to the TV and I just couldn't believe what I was seeing," he added, his words conveying the sheer horror of the moment.Eric described the harrowing scene, as he watched the events unfold on the screen. "You instantly see blood, you instantly see someone on the ground, and you don't know if they were hit multiple times, and you're just praying to God that they stand up."

A Narrow Escape

The would-be assassin, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, had fired several shots with an AR-style rifle from about 130 yards away from the podium where the former president was addressing the crowd. One bullet grazed Trump's ear, narrowly missing the side of his skull."He's got a bad earache, to say the least," Eric said, describing his father's injury. However, he took solace in the fact that his father was able to get up and raise his fist in the air, indicating that he was mobile and alive.

Unwavering Resolve

Despite the trauma of the shooting, which claimed the life of one rallygoer and critically wounded two others, Eric revealed that his father was determined to proceed with his planned appearance at the Republican National Convention."I spoke to him 45 minutes after that shooting, and he goes, 'Nothing changes with the convention, I'm gonna be there,'" Eric recalled, marveling at his father's unwavering resolve.

A Family's Strength

Eric and his older brother, Donald Jr., were on hand to greet their father on the convention floor, as he took the stage with his newly announced running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio. The former president's appearance was marked by a bandage on his right ear, a visible reminder of the harrowing event. While the Trump family's resilience was on full display, the absence of former first lady Melania Trump, as well as the youngest son, Barron, and daughter Ivanka, was notable. The family's unity and support for the former president were evident, even in the face of such a terrifying ordeal.
