Serving Up Community Support: The Etna Green Lions Club's Fairground Feast

In the heart of Kosciusko County, the Etna Green Lions Club has been a fixture at the annual community fair, serving up more than just delicious fare. Their food booth, a longstanding tradition, is a testament to the club's unwavering commitment to supporting local initiatives and making a difference in the lives of those they serve.

Fueling Community Initiatives, One Bite at a Time

Sustaining a Decades-Long Tradition

The Etna Green Lions Club's food booth has been a staple at the Kosciusko County Community Fair since the 1950s, according to fellow member Al Sharkey. This enduring presence is a testament to the club's dedication to serving the community and raising funds for important causes. The club's secretary and treasurer, Jeff Hoffman, shared that the food sales from the fair week are the organization's "main fundraiser." These proceeds, he explained, do not simply line the club's coffers; rather, they are reinvested into the community in the form of scholarships, support for the Triton Junior Football League, and eye-screening programs for children in the Triton School Corporation.

Weathering the Challenges of Fair Week

Despite the wet weather earlier in the week, which Hoffman attributed to a slight dip in sales, the Etna Green Lions Club's food booth remained a hub of activity on Saturday, July 13. Hoffman noted that the club typically relies on a team of around 16 volunteers, split into two shifts, to keep the booth running smoothly throughout the fair. The club's dedication to serving the community is evident in their willingness to adapt to the changing conditions and ensure that their food booth remains a reliable source of sustenance and support for fair-goers.

Inviting the Community to Get Involved

For those interested in joining the Etna Green Lions Club and contributing to their community-focused initiatives, Hoffman encourages them to check out the club's Facebook page. This digital platform serves as a gateway for individuals to learn more about the club's activities and explore opportunities to get involved.By fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, the Etna Green Lions Club aims to inspire more members of the Kosciusko County community to join their ranks and become active participants in their mission to make a positive impact.
